Default For those with Wild1 517's

I am looking at these bars for my Road Glide. Looking at the measurements it looks like they have hte same pullback as the Wide Glide bars....They sure LOOK like they have more pullback (closer to you) than the Wide Glides though. Anyone tried both?

I now have the Wide Glide bars and am looking for another 1" or so pullback and different grip angle for the long rides. Thanks for any input.

I have also looked at Wild1 515's but they are less pull back than the Wide Glides. I now have Wide Glides on my bike.

Had a similar issue, went to the WG bars and although they helped a little I was still not happy with the pullback, height, or width. Decided to do the Wild 1 502 (12.5) apes and I am now very happy. Oh yeah, 2007 Road Glide as well.

i hadthe wideglide bars on my fltr and theydid not have enough pullback for me. i do not like the wild 1 517 bars as they seem to make your hands twist some at the wrist, not comfortable at all. i am fairly tall and ineed the apes that are at least 12" tall, but they have to have a lot of pullback -which most apes do not have. so if you look at apes, be sure to look for the pullback dimensions. the wild 1 ape's do have a lot of pullback. look at the boulebar apes - the ends turn slightly down which allow your shoulders to stay relaxed - most apes keep your hands more level and keep your shoulders twisted outward some - not as comfortable.

(i would like to see some input on the kromewerks sweeper bars - or some name similar to that - and the l. a. chopper 666 bars, and the carlini flyin apes: they all have unique bends that seem appealing to hand position).

www.boulebars.com

a little expensive for handlebars, but i have spent a lot more money on things that did not provide comfort at all.
for me, i could use either 14" or 16" apes and still have my hands below my shoulders. if you go above the 12" size, you probably can not use stock cables, etc at that point.

I have also been on a quest for new bars for my 05 RG. Counting the stock bars, I've been thru 4 variations:
Part Number Tip to Tip Base Rise Pull Back
56623-99 31.25 11.5 8.5 5 Chrome Handlebars - Heritage SoftailÂŽ Classic
56570-98 31.5 10.5 8.75 9.5 Custom Handlebars - Road Glide
56079-93T 32 10 10.25 6.5 WIDE GLIDE Chrome
56571-98 32 11.5 7 3.5 Stainless Road GlideÂŽ Handlebar
I am 5'9", 32" sleeve and inseam both.

Chronologically:
[ol][*]The stock bars were way too short causing me to lean forward.[*]The Heritage bars were an improvement, but I still needed (rather: need) a couple more inches pullback.[*]The custom bars sucked massively: the "slight buckhorn" cut the pullback down to less than the original. It felt like my hands were down next to the tank...[*]The WideGlide barswere OK but somehow were subjectively less comfortable than the Heritage. Possibly due to less rise...?[*]The Heritage barsare back on the bike now, but I am still looking. [/ol]
I dropped an email to Wild1 giving the above sad tale and received the following:

Would be interesting to see some of those Flander bars on a RG.............

Wild1 must have thought you said you have a Road King. All the pics in those links are of a non fairing bike and NOT a road glide..............

heres another link that could help you out, I have been looking at this predicament for some time, seems it crops up more with R/Gs more than any model, as I am looking myself. The problem I have seen by most is they want more pullback and very little change in height. The problem I have found with most bars is that the more the pullback, the less " wrist turn " there is. In other words, the closer the bar gets to you, the width "offset" may not change or the "center width" changes. any slight change in those factors changes the ergonomics.....seems the stock R/Gs need about 2 inches in height to compensate for about 3 more inches in pullback...just my 02...still looking
