Default 11.5 inch Progression 440s on my RK Custom

I just installed 11.5 in. 440's on my RK Custom last night. Extremely easy install. The ride is great! I realize these have 1/2 inch less travel, but they are smoother. No more "mushy" feeling and small bumps aren't felt at all. Big bumps like railroad tracks are not as jarring as before. Lastly the extra 1/2 inch of lowered the bike nicely. I checked the tire and it is still quite a distance from the fender. Turning is not a problem, no board scraping. I even had to throw a tight u-turn in the rain today at a train crossing and the boards didn't touch the ground.

I would highly recommend the 440s to anyone.

I've been considering doing this plus lower the front on my Ultra, but I'd like to know how the handling changes since the front rake is altered some. I usually ride long distances and usually two-up. Appreciate any thoughts on this. Thanks!

The 11.5" er's are probably ok for solo riding [depending on your weight and which spring you get], however I think they are to short for any 2 up action.[sm=bounceybounce.gif]

You know Cheyenne, I thought about one of your posts after I put the shocks on. I remember you told a guy NOT to lower his SG because you scraped your floorboards TWICE the same day you got it. Man, you must be riding the hell out of that thing [sm=gears.gif]!!! I think I may be somewhat more conservative (read that as old and scared of death) and was really surprised at the ride. I payed special attention on turns and made them at a steeper lean angle than I usually do on purpose-no probs.

But the real test will be when I ride two up. Since they are adjustable and I only weigh 185, I think they will work out fine. But if they don't work too well with two up, I saved my stock shocks and stored them upright so they will remain in good shape. I can always put them back on for my trip to Laughlin with my G/F if I need to.

Rapz, the handling is very good, however I did also lower the front to match. The Custom stock has a front end that is higher in the front by about an inch (same fork springs as other RK's, but 1 inch lower rear shocks). So when I installed HD RK lowering springs it in effect leveled out front and back. Much more stable at slow speeds now, coasts to a stop like a bicycle-very noticable. My Custom use to be unstable in the front while slowing down to a stop, but not after lowering the front. Now that I put on the 440's it is 1/2 inch lower in the rear than the front and the handling is still good. No front wobble at low speeds. I am very satisfied with the 440's performance.

Jeepster, I guess only trying it out will tell, but I honestly think it will be OK for two up. The 440's have these hash marks that you can see as you soften or stiffen the ride. There are 5 (or 7?) hash marks. I only haave it set to the second mark-so I still have at least 3 more adjustment marks to stiffen the ride for a larger load. Also I am only 185 and my g/f is less than me by about 45 pounds. But I will definitely post a report once I have put a few miles on it with my g/f.
