Default Nighttrain as a first bike?

Question on the night train...is this a bike that a brand new rider can learn effectively on or should I wait to upgrade.
&nbsp\\;
I am taking the rider's course at the end of the month and&nbsp\\;there is a night train that has caught my eye.&nbsp\\; It is an 01 in good shape for just under 10k.&nbsp\\; I am not a small guy 5'10" and 240lbs and I am concerned that a sportster might just be too small for me&nbsp\\;to learn on.
&nbsp\\;
I love the styling of the Nighttrain, I just don't know if I am crazy for looking at this for my first bike.
&nbsp\\;
Your insight and experience is appreciated.&nbsp\\; Thank you in advance.
&nbsp\\;

Get the Train. The Sportster is not as tame as a Train. You'll be glad you did.

Not as tame?&nbsp\\; I know that the train outweighs the sportster but I guess you are inferring that the sportster has got a bit of pep off the line?&nbsp\\; I am turning 30 in October so this is a bit of a early bday present...I just don't want to get a bike that will be "too much" as my neighbor put it to me.
&nbsp\\;
I really feel like I am going to end up getting the train, I am just hesitent that if I drop a 10k bike vs. a 4k bike, as a beginner,&nbsp\\;I might have some anger issues...

Took the Rider's Edge course last September.&nbsp\\; Went to the Tomahawk Fall Ride, rode the Night Train as the first demo fleet ride.&nbsp\\; Fell in love with it, none of the others I rode felt the same.&nbsp\\; A week later I purchased my first bike, a Night Train from a buddy.&nbsp\\; One of my friends liked mine so much he went out and bought a new one a few months later.&nbsp\\; I say go for it!

Thank you for the advice...I just need to scrounge up that deposit now...
&nbsp\\;
Anything to look for on a used train? How do I notice warning signs that the bike was abused?&nbsp\\; It seems like a pretty good deal.&nbsp\\; I haven't found anything better on ebay.

I would definately get the NT, I'm&nbsp\\; 5'5"&nbsp\\; 200, my first bike was a fatboy, I had no problems at all, if you buy a sporty you'll regret it.&nbsp\\; goodluck,&nbsp\\; latr

Cgauss, that is a SICK bike.
&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;
I am really convinced that the train is the only way to go, it is just that voice in my head...or is it my wife...that is saying 10k for a first bike is not a good idea saying I drop it.
&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;
Markymark I appreciate the info and if at 5'5" you had no problems with a fatboy I am def. more comfortable with the idea of the train as a first bike.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; Thanks again.

I'm 5'7" 140lbs. my 1st bike was a Sporty and I only kept it 4 months and moved up to a Dyna\\; I now have an 08 train. Don't get me wrong, the Sporty was a great bike but I felt that I needed a bit more machine beneath me. Get the Nightrain...you won't regret it!

When I first came out of the riders school, I looked for a used Harley, under 10K..couldn't find anything besides used sporty's around here for under 10..so I went "metric", easy to ride and easy to pay for..but I wasn't happy until 3 years later I got my *** on a Train.
Just practice what they preach in school, you'll get used to it quick.
