Default Heel Rests flipped

When I added my heel rests I noticed that I didn't stretch my legs out as far. The center of my boot was always somewhere between the heel rest and the peg. I already added a 2inch extension and wanted to take advantage of the extra space. The heel rests were working againstme so today I tried something. Have any of you done this? What do you think? It's a lot different for me. I can stretch out quite a bit, especially if I put my heels between the peg and the "toe/heel rest". See before and after pics below.

Sounds good to me. I usually rest the heels of my boots on the front of the floorboards. Whatever makes you comfy Dave.

DAMM DAVE!!! What a great idea. I find I'm having the same problem depending on what seat I'm using. When I ride solo, I use a sidekick seat which pushes me down and back...so the forward controls/heel rests are in the perfect position. But if I plan on riding with my wife, I put my dyna 'pillow-look' seat on, and that seat pushes me considerably farther forward. I bet if I try what you did, that will help out big time. Great thinkin man!
I very rarely ride two-up these days (because we have a 1 year old). My wife doesn't get a chance to ride with me much. So while it would be a pain to have to switch over the heel rests if I was constantly switching between solo and two up riding (with the different seats)...but every now and again, we get a chance to get out together. I'm definitely going to try and move the heel rests next time I plan on taking my wife out for a ride.

I was thinking about these as an option for much the same purpose.

The only problem I ran into is that they aren't really designed to get into a good position to allow room for your foot (between the peg and the shifter/brake). I had to flip them to opposite sides so that the screw would be underneath and force them into place. The screw doesn't go in quite as far but I'm going to keep an eye on it and maybe add some loctite.

After using these upside down for a while, how do you like it?

I'm used to it now. Every now and then I look at them and think "it doesn't look quite right" but comfort always wins out. Recently one of them came loose (maybe due to the fact that they aren't really set up to be on there backwards) but I used some loctite and haven't had a problem for about 300+ miles since. Eventually I plan to get a seat that puts me a little further back. I may flip them back then but for now, it has solved the problem.

Here's the problem - basically the peg represents where the middle of your foot will go. Add heel rests - you slide down onto the heel rest and now your front half of your foot is on the peg. For me, that meant about 2 inches and caused me to have less leg room. With the rest out front, I put my heel on the peg and middle to front of my foot on the flipped heel rest gaining the extra inches.

Yea know what you mean about the leg room. I was just fine with the 3" extended forward controls, but lost an inch or two when I put the heel rests on. Still comforable for me, though. Seems to me that like you say, seat rearward would be the way to go, especially since after reading some of your other posts you say that the handlebars are a bit further forward than you would like.

How about seat reshaping at Mean City cycles? $40 + shipping.

Do you also have pegs where the mid controls would have been? That looks like a good idea to me. Sometimes I want to sit a little more upright around town and stretch out on longer rides.

I do and I love them. It's great to be able to shift leg position on long rides.
