Trick Harley Sportster 48 From Australia’s Kustom Kommune

harley-sportster-48-625x416I’ve written about how I like some cafe-style Harleys before, and would really love to build an XR750 clone someday. So I’m always interested in projects which take a Harley in a slightly different direction, and I loved this build from Australia’s Kustom Kommune. Now, I know a bunch of members might be turned off by the play off the word commune in the name—but forget about dope-smoking hippies growing soybeans. Here’s the description of what KK is, straight from its official site:

The Kustom Kommune is Melbourne’s first ever communal motorcycle workshop. A decked out community space. The Kommune is a fully equipped DIY motorcycle workshop located less than 3km’s from Melbourne’s CBD where you can hire a work bay to work on your motorcycle project. Restorations, scratch builds, custom projects or general maintenance, no project is too big or small. The Kommune is a community of like minded motorcycle enthusiasts learning from one another and building friendships.

The article over on BikeExif goes into great detail about everything which was done to the bike, but the overarching theme was that the builders wanted it to be easy to maintain, so electric nannies like the ABS sensors and the EFI we scrapped in favor of spacers and carbs. The result is an amazing looking bike which doesn’t take a NASA-grade show to maintain, and that’s something I think lots of HDF members can get behind.
