i'M BACK - 2012 flhr - Midnight pearl
Hey all. Just traded the Softail in on a 2012 Midnight pearl FLHR.
WHat more needs to be said
Anyway, one quick question. Anyone who has done the handlebars on a 2012, and gone to the heritage style bars. Did you have to change anything else, or were they just drop in?
Guess the rounds are on me.
Would if I could. Haven't got one yet.

I put the Heritage style bars on my 2012 FLHR and replaced the TBW harness with the one recommended by the MoCo. I've read from others that the TBW harness replacement wasn't needed, but I decided to replace it anyway because I knew I was going to pull the bars downward towards me and I was concerned the existing wires might be stretched tight and cause me trouble down the road. I didn't replace any other cables or wires, just the TBW. The bars are great, btw - got rid of the pain across the shoulder blades from the OEM bars.

Congratulations!! The swap to Heritage-style bars is VERY easy. Another member posted step by step instructions, WITH photos illustrating the steps that made it a piece of cake. Check them out: https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...road-king.html You do not need to change anything. (Tilting the bars back, which I did to accomodate my TallBoy seat, doesn't make the bars longer. )
I just did a 1,000 mile mini-tour this weekend, my first longish ride since installing the Heritage style bars and couldn't be happier with them. (I also changed to the H-D Get-a-Grip magnum grips while I was at it, which are also a huge improvement.

Congrats!!! Great choice. I traded my softail last sepetmber for a 2012 FLHR in midnight pearl. Left it stock until the 1000 mile service. Put on the HD reduced reach bars for the road king. Perfect fit for my 5'10 frame and the bike. All wires are now internal and very clean looking. Did not have to replace any wires. Just another option to consider. The reduced reach bars were very inexpensive and without replacing cables the service time was also lower. Good luck with you new aquisition.
