recommend 2 speaker/amp for 2014 FLHXS fairing
Some folks on the forum convinced me to abandon my plans for a BOOM system. That being said, I would like to get a couple different perspectives on the best VALUE for a new amp/speaker setup. I plan on doing the install myself. Here's what I would like to accomplish:
Budget = $400, ability to revert back to stock system when I trade up, retain OE head unit, good quality sound across the spectrum, ability to hear clearly at highway speeds with gutted factory exhaust (de-catted, American Custom Exhaust Bomber slip-ons, no baffles)
A couple recommendations I have received already:
1. JL Audio HX280/4 amp bridged to Pioneer TS-D1702R speakers, Biketronics LL, Scosche wiring kit.
2. Cerwin Vega b52 and hertz 6.5s with adapter rings, Biketronics LL
Please feel free to make comments on these systems and/or recommend a different setup.
Couple questions...
1. The JL HX280/4 has an IP rating (water resistant). Does the Cerwin Vega have this? Is this rating/protection necessary when mounting in the fairing?
2. I have seen mention regarding FM reception, will adding an amp like these interfere with my radio signal? What are the potential issues?

I have a Cerwin Vega B54 amp in my 14 flhxs. I noticed a little loss of reception compared to stock. I run a short antenna and never have had good signal nor do I listen to the radio much.
You dont need speaker adapters for 6.5, the Rushmore come stock with 6.5.
I've tried numerous speakers and they all sound different. If you buy hertz or focal make sure they come from a authorised dealer

Your suggestions are not bad by any means. Personally I would think about moving your budget up a bit to include some slightly higher grade components...amp mostly if your concern is FM reception. I have to also add where ever you buy your stuff from whether it be from big box store, small shop like mine, or even amazon or eBay...please for the love of god don't be that guy that tries buy the cheapest stuff and waste your money with little to no customer service. This forum is an awesome source for info and help but unfortunately they cant help you out when it comes to warranty issues of any kind. Just my 2 cents my friend
