Default Mikuni Hard Start When Hot

I picked up a Deuce (TC88) with a Mikuni HSR carb (not sure if it's the 42 or 45). The setup runs great.
No cold starting problems. In fact, it hardly gets to turn over before it's running.
The occasional problem I'm having is a hard start after shutting the bike down warm.
On a restart it will turn over and not catch or it will backfire through the carb.
It does not do this every time.
I pulled the plugs and they look great.
It has the SE/K&N air filter with SEII pipes.
I am not sure about the jetting or any cam work.
Like I said it works and performs great EXCEPT for this one occasional issue.
Any help or direction would be appreciated.

Have you tried opening the throttle just a bit when cranking ??? The slow jet sounds slightly on the rich side ...thats ok ....most carb motors need the extra air (velocity) pulling thru the intake manifold to get the gas to the cylinder ..(and in your case to lean the mix just a tad ) ...just try not to pump the throttle ...that will shoot more gas in from the accelerator pump ...(depending on the jetting ,but sounds too rich now ...you may need one single pump before starting ..with the throttle slightly opened)...try this ...and with a little practice ...you'll find the throttle opening it likes to start up on....

we run the 45mm and an S&S G ...both need the throttle slightly opened during starting ...
hope this helps ....

Thanks. I'll give this a shot. I have been overcoming it by a full throttle twist, hold, crank, release on fire. Not ideal but it got it going.
I really like the torquey feeling of this carb and I am perfectly happy with it except for this one thing. I'll be moving to a set of V&H Big Radius 2 to 2 soon and I hope I don't have to fool with my carb setup too much.

Yes. Stock head pipes with SEII Baloney cut mufflers.
