Painting a Carb?
#2
yea I have, but not on a bike. I painted a holley once; disassembled and soaked it in carb cleaner overnight, cleaned it with lacquer thinner and masked what I did not want paint on
then wet-on-wet; (with proper flash times) acid etch primer, color, clear. it looked good for the 3 years that I had it on the car....

I spray painted the carb on my Yamaha years ago. I used silver touch up paint I had from a old Chrysler. But cleaned it really well first with gumout and then formula 409 to get the petroleum residue off. It stayed on for the next couple of years until the bike got totalled. I would clean it with carb cleaner then brake kleen. Just make sure you mask it really well. If your bike is blacked out I would consider using some heat resistant paint.

Thanks for the advice guys, I'm powder coating a Wimmer Intake System black and also my manifold black. I gotta have a black carb, so i gotta paint it. Some guys are saying don't do it...I'm doing it, I cleaned the hell out of it with carb cleaner and I'm taping off all the screws and springs and obviously the intakes. I got some etching primer and will use some high temp high gloss paint as well. I'll try to take some before and after pics and post them. Thanks dudes....

paint will not hold up to the fumes and the gas... just will not do it... powder is your only choice... if you do paint use high heat as advised that will take gas fumes for a bit... but i powder everything take a bit to tape and plug but here are the ones i did for my cafe build:

ooh ya the whole carb has to be taken completely apart in order to prevent problems like your seals, rubber rings, gaskets, and they also have to be rinsed really well so that the fumes do not burst into flames in the oven...
pulling a carb apart is super easy man... there is nothing to them
