Default 91 Sportster Fuel Line Routing/Protection Question

Hello All. I recently purchased a 91 sportster that needed a bit of work. One of the first projects was to replace the fuel line (which was routed incorrectly and had cracked) and clean the carb.

Anyway, it seems any way I route the fuel line, it will come into close contact with the engine and potentially dangerous temperatures. I've done a few searches but can't find anyone that has a petcock on the right side of the tank and an S&S super e with the fuel intake pointed straight down.

Do I need to cover the fuel line with a braid or some other protection?

Also, any ideas on how to route the fuel line? I'm having trouble getting photos uploaded. I will update as soon as I can.

Thanks,
Matt

Hi,

My fuel line runs between the jugs from left to right and the only precaution I take is to put a cover over the hose to prevent it wearing a hole in it if it touches the cylinders. I have never had any heat issues at all.

Cheers
