Just installed a new gas tank + Mikuni carb. From where the petcock comes down, it seems like the fuel line runs directly between the heads - and where the fuel inlet is on the Mikuni itself is sitting right against the cylinder fins.
Question is - can I use any standard fuel line or do I need a special-rated fuel line for this application? Picked up a 3/8 OD line from Seven Sins but my buddy is a doomsday prepper and says I'm going to blow myself up. Input appreciated...also on the angle of the petcock...is that ok?
As long as it is not pinched or touching any part of the heads, it should be OK. If in fact it is actually touching the head fins, you should find some way (using metal fittings) to reroute the inlet so that it and the fuel line is clear of the heads.
The stock fuel line normally comes with a plastic convoluted sleeve on it, to stop it chafing. If you didn't take it off, find yourself some #62555-95 'INSULATOR 1/2 INCH I.D. (NYLON)'. It's ten bucks for an eight feet length, but your local dealer may be happy to cut off a short section for a few pence. You can get similar stuff from an electrical shop, for tidying up wiring.
