An Unusual Harley Build

Most custom builds based on the Harley-Davidson Softail follow a familiar formula: new wheels, modified bodywork, fresh paint, and minor mechanical tweaks. The Swiss custom shop Bundnerbike took a different path with the Giraffe II. Instead of simply restyling a cruiser, the company created a dramatically altered machine whose proportions stray far from the Softail it began life as.

A Successor to the Original Giraffe

The Giraffe II builds on an earlier custom released roughly four years prior, which also stretched the Softail platform into an extreme chopper. Like its predecessor, the new version emphasizes a dramatically elongated front section and an exaggerated “high-neck” chopper stance. The result is a motorcycle whose unusual geometry is designed primarily to stand out visually, even if it might make steering more challenging in real-world riding.

Ten Inches Longer

Transforming the Softail required major structural changes. Bundnerbike extended the motorcycle’s frame by about 10 inches (25 cm), significantly increasing the overall length. That stretched profile is accentuated by a very low seating position and a rear wheel measuring 18 inches wide, which visually dominates the back of the bike.

A Massive Front Fork

The front end exaggerates the design even further. The custom fork stretches roughly 20 inches (51 cm) and ends in a large front wheel matching the oversized proportions of the rear. Combined with the extended frame, the front suspension gives the Giraffe II its distinctive long-neck silhouette.

Custom Tank and Seat

Because of the altered geometry, many original components could not simply be reused. Bundnerbike created a two-piece fuel tank with a pointed design that flows toward the seat. The seat itself features diamond stitching and sits above the oil tank, forming a continuous visual line between the tank and rear bodywork.

Details and Hardware

Several aftermarket components help complete the build. Parts supplier Performance Machine provided items such as the brake and clutch levers along with the footrests. At the rear, the fender integrates lighting elements—an approach commonly seen on heavily customized Harley builds.

Engine and Exhaust Setup

Despite the dramatic structural changes, the motorcycle retains the Softail’s original engine. The powertrain breathes through a custom intake from Bundnerbike and an exhaust system supplied by Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde. The wheels themselves are machined from a single block of aluminum, emphasizing the handcrafted nature of the project.

Bold Finish

The earlier Giraffe model wore a largely purple finish, but the Giraffe II opts for a far more striking palette. A bright gold-toned color coats the fork, fuel tank, rear fender, and even the wheels, ensuring the already unusual motorcycle attracts attention before anyone even notices its stretched proportions.

Price Unknown

Bundnerbike has not disclosed how much the Giraffe II would cost to commission. Given the extensive fabrication work and bespoke components involved, however, builds of this scale frequently reach six-figure price tags, placing them firmly in the realm of collectible custom motorcycles rather than everyday riders.
