Default Garage Door Opener

So I'm going to copy the hard wire garage door opener under the dash mod, but the wiring is different I think.

I have a 2012 FXDB and I used ,y volt meter to find the switched positive at the speedo and I can't figure it out. Some wires are constant hot and the ones that are switched will only give me a very low voltage.

Is there a true 12v switched positive at the speedo?

what controller are you going to use? i just used the stock opener and soldered wires to the open switch. drilled out the console and put a weather proof push button with rtv sealant to waterproof it.

Good mod above. What I wrote was for installing HD's transmitter.

I'm doing exactly this. What wires did you tap? Right now I'm thinking orange/red and the black for ground. It will be a functioning switch at all times since it's not switched. I'd like it to have switched power though.

i did not tap any wires. using the stock garage door battery. all i did was solder external wires to the circuit board (button i am using). used a Dremel to open up the side so the enclosing can snap back together and spliced the external switch to the circuit board. So if my battery dies all i do is open it up like any normal opener and replace the battery

Are you trying to eliminate the battery?

Got it. I ended up doing it your way. I tapped multiple wires that were reading 12v and it wouldn't work. Guess it wasn't enough to power the instruments and the opener. Oh well it still works and that's what matters.

Talk about convenient.
