5,000 Mile trans oil Change? really?
I have a cylmer service manual for a 99-2005 FXD. it say the service interval for the trans & primary oil is 5,000 miles..
5,000 mile seems short, I changed my transmission oil today with about 6,000 miles and it looked in great shaped.. the primary oil with 4,000 ,miles was grey,
I think I read the new bikes have a 10,000 mile interval,
I hav ea warranty so I should stick to the official service schedule,
but what do you all think of this? My 06 sportster had a 10,000 mile interval, just wonder why my 03 dyna can't do the same..

I change oil like I change underwear - long before I think I need to, regardless of the hole involved.
I don't think about it much. I don't have to sweat the price of the oils, filters, gaskets, or washers. It just feels good to change them often, and all at once. Waste? Yeah, it's a waste. But in 45 years or riding bikes into very high mileages, I've never had to rebuild one - not even the top end.
Oil, even expensive oil, is cheap.
