Anyone useing regular Mobil-1
My 1000 oil change is coming up, im looking at just useing Mobil-1 ( gold cap) 20w50. From the threads iv read there isnt to much difference between Mobile-1 and Mobil -1 V-Twin. Im also looking for a regular oil filter to use to.The only one iv read about is the fram ph-6002 for my 2007 Dyna. Any words of wisdom would be appreciated. Guess i would use the same oil in my primary and Mobil-1 gear oil in the tranny.

RE: Anyone useing regular Mobil-1
I've got Mobil 1 15/50 in the motor and primary and Mobil 1 70/90 synthetic gear oil in the tranny. It works fine and can cost a couple bucks less per quart than the 20/50 Vtwin and 3 bucks less than Harleys rip off semi synth.I changed the oil every 2k mi with whatever was handy in my last bike for over 40K mi and it's still going strong, and by what ever was handy I mean any quality name brand oil in the right viscosity Mobil 1,drive clean,Castrol,Chevron whatever I think clean oil is more important than fancy expensive oil.

I run mobil 1 15w50 in my engine and primary. All I can say is I just passed the 97,000 mile mark and have had no problems. BTW I run castrol synthetic 80W90 in the tranny

RE: Anyone useing regular Mobil-1
Motorcycle oils were designed for bikes that have a wet clutch sharing the same oil with the motor.Modern synthetics in the 30wt range that most cars use have friction modifiers that "may" cause your clutch to slip.Since most bikes use oils in the 10-40 to 20-50 range this is likely not an issue.Actually some reseach has sugested that heavy duty oils designed for diesel trucks may be even better than special motorcycle oils. Now here's the kicker, Harleys don't share oils between the motor and clutch so there's no real reason to need a special oil unless you just want to spend special money.I will spend the extra money for a proven high quality oil like Mobil 1 but I'm not going to spend extra dollars on a special "motorcycle oil" that I don't need.
