Default Stuufing Wires back in

I took the tank console off of my Bob. I disconected the wire conecters that are in the neck where the wires go under the tank from the speedometer and idiot lights. I have re-connected the two wire harnesses and am having a heck of a time stuffing it all back in so I can put the rubber grommets back in. Is it possible to pull the tank and slide the wires back down the frame? Is the part of the frame that the wires go down open or closed under the tank between the seat and handlebars? I don't want to force them at the risk of breaking off a wire. Is there a trick that someone knows?

Were you aware of the access to the wiring cavitywhich is located under the backbone at the front of the tank. There is a plastic cover which can be removed. This is true for the and later models.

should have enough room with that plastic piece removed to more effectively 'stuff' your wires back in the backbone.

If you don't have a tank lift installed on your bike, you may need to unbolt the front of the tank. Becareful when you do this so you don't let it drop. It will scratch the rocker boxes. Support the tank with a block of wood or something similar. Once the plastic cover is removed from the bottom of the backbone, you can get a few fingers in there and move some of the harnesses around to make room.

good point about the tank lift - didn't thing about that. i had my tank removed when i did my handlebar wiring. +1 on being careful with those rocker covers; I think they're made out of the softest/cheapest material HD could find.

HD4DP,
On my 3rd set of bars on my 06 Street Bob and have yet to remove the Tank.
Like the other guys are saying here, Undo all the wires and EFI connect to the tank
and the tank bolts and slowly move the tank to the rear and rest the cross over
hose on the rocker box. That will give you plenty of room to get to the plastic cover
on the frame and access the wires and plugs. Just be careful stuffing them back in
when the job is complete. Keep is to go slow and don't drink too much Beer.
Hope this helps, here is a pic of my scoot with the latest bars on it.
