I was wondering if anybody just sells a backing plate so I could get rid of that air blocking stock plastic insert without going to a whole new A/C right now. Can you run the stock filter without the cover just to see how it runs?

 

Just watch the classifieds. Used ones come up all the time. Cheap too.

 

I've seen guys open holes on the backing plate with a hole saw. That would let more air in.
