The battery cover may have two screws on top, under the seat and one underneath.

A suggestion is to buy a service manual.

If it's the same as my 02, or anything like it, you pop the seat off to pull the battery cables, then, on to the left of the battery (looking straight at it from the side), there are two bolts that hold up the left side of the battery tray. One you can see, the other is above that bolt, upside down. When you pull those bolts, the battery tray swings down on the left side.

Before I go through the trouble of taking pics of the battery removal from the Manual. Can we post pages here from the Service Manual? If not, can I post a link?

Here's a diagram of the battery tray (BikeBandit.com) as used on Dyna models 2003 & 2004.

Pull battery cables (negative first), just loosen 1st bolt and fully pull 2nd one and slide down battery tray. Re-assemble in reversed order.

FXD2003Rider, you got a good image there. I could not get a good photo from the manual with my camera.

I can't get to my neg cable without dropping the tray and pulling that battery out some.

Don't pull it off the battery, unbolt the other end from the bike.

Wow, never even gave that a thought. I'll have to pull the seat to even see where the other end of the cable is...
