Here's were it goes. Bet more bad batteries, too many add ons, shorted wires and people jump starting with the cables on the wrong side get more of them then age. Different oils is not going to hurt it. However not sure why you would need to experiment with oils in there. I would think putting too thick an oil may contribute to shucking a magnet off the rotor. They are just glued on. If you look close at the rotor on the left in the second attachment, you will see the red epoxy glue. The stator is the alternator, produces AC current and the diodes in the regulator turn it to DC. One on the advantage of the magnets on the rotor part is they do not require a carbon brush like a car alternator. Running in oil cools it.

The oil I use in there is Belray primary chaincase lube and I did fry a stator on a trip to L.A., the mechanic told me sometimes they just fry out for no particular reason. I took his word for it as it was under warranty anyways. Still it got me thinking about the oil I use in there, it,s an 80 wt, same formula thats used in my dirtbike just a different bottle.

Manual Police
I don't have a manual so I can't ride any more but I did stay the night at a Holiday Inn. So can I or not?
Or they type it into google without waking the grizzly bears up from their nap. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stator

Don't forget to change the air every 5,000 miles.
