Talking Paint lower forks on Street Bob...brakes?

The only mod I wanted to get done this winter was to paint my lower front forks black. They are pitted and streaked so it's as much for cosmetic reasons as for preservation.

Taking off the fender is no big deal, but wondering how much of the front brakes I have to take apart? If I disconnect the brake line from the caliper and tie it off, can I just remove the front wheel - brake still attached to the rotor - put the wheel aside and start to sand and prep the forks? Will I have to bleed the brakes after reconnecting the brake line?

I know many who have done this with epoxy paint and the end result looked very nice indeed. Just dont want to make a huge production out of it. If it's simple, I'll do it!!

Thanks and peace

I removed the caliper from the fork and left the brake line attached and just zip tied it up outta the way. Then just remove your wheel (with rotor attached) tape off axle and caliper mounting holes and you should be ready to go. also cover your bike extremely well that epoxy paint oversprays bad and is some sticky stuff.

Ya no need to remove the brake line. Just unbolt caliper from the forks and move it out if the way. Just make sure and don't apply the brake while it is removed. Then remove the wheel and the rotor will stay with it.

Thank ya kindly my brothas......slicker than snot...all set to prep.

Anyone know if the HD spray paint for the frame would work as well as or at least work well on the lower forks? Thinking that the gloss and shade would match identical to the frame that way......

i used a coouple of large trash bags and some good painters masking tape. used fine line tape around the cups of the sliders (to keep them chrome) and as the previous guys said just unbolt the caliper and move it out of the way and remove the front wheel, as far as paint goes i just used gloss black rustoleum seemed to match ok

I used Ruastoleum satin black. Just sanded the origunal finish with a Scotch brite pad and painted it. I'ts been that way for a year with no problems. A little trick for brake calipers is to put a paint stick or two between the pads just in case anyone comes around and squeezes the front brake lever.
