Default TW-555 cams installed w/pics, step by step insruction

Got my 555 cams last week, spent a few hours on thursday night, installation was straight forward, the harbour freight $45 bearing puller works great! The hardest part is Fuelmoto adjustable pushrods, time consuming. I mean the pushrods are nice but it takes too long to install compare to SE pushrods, well it is finally done.

1. Lift up the bike and remove the exhaust

2. Drain the oil

3. Remove the pushrod tube retainers with a flat head screwdriver

4. Rubber bend and paper clip to hold the pushrod tube up for cutting

5. Lift the rear wheel, put it in high gear, 5th is ok

6. Find top dead center by putting your finger on the spark plug opening, spin the rear wheel, when you feel compression, that will be the cylinder. Most people look at the overlap on the opposite cylinder, that works too.

7. Place a rag on the back of the pushrods so you don't scratch the cylinders, cut the pushrods and remove them

8. Hold the lifters with a paper spring clip, old trick

9. Remove primary cover, knock it off with a rubber hammer

10. Remove 9/16 and 1/2 head bolts, sprockets, outer tensioner etc

11. Remove cam plate mounting bolts expect the 4 oil pump bolts in the center, gently pry it off with a screw driver

12. Pull the inner bearings out, I recommend one at a time so you can compare the depth. Courtesy help from my little buddy Curtis lol

13. Remove the snap ring from front camshaft, slide both cams out together.

14. Install new wood cams, make sure you line up the 2 dots and lube the moving parts with assembly lube

15. Install cam plate, make sure the 3 o-rings are on properly, torque to specs

16. Install sprockets, chain and tensioner, torque to specs

17. Install primary cover, torque to specs

18. Install pushrods and do adjustment, every pushrod is different, Fuelmoto recommend zero lash then 19 flats. Make sure you work on one cylinder at a time until the lifter bleeds

19. Put oil in the crankcase, my fav Amsoil lol . Leave the spark plug wires off, crank the motor until the oil light goes off, you are ready to start. Start the motor, use the throttle thumb screw to keep the rpm at 1500-2000, slightly break in the cams.

20. Last step, load canned map into power commander, ready to rock and roll!

I changed cams on a shovelhead. Is this just as easy, I just get nervous working on a brand new motor. But don't want to pay to have it done. The shovelhead was very basic
