Default Is the 103" worth waiting for?

I can pick up a 96" Street Bob today or wait about 8 weeks (dealer said that's a safe estimate) and have one with the 103" like I'd originally wanted.

I've only ridden the 96... help me out, guys. Is it worth the wait?

Thanks, Sic

Certainly a Stage 1 upgrade would exist in the near future, but probably never anything beyond that... if that helps at all...

I really don't notice much if any difference between the two (a 2009 96CI Roadking) and my new 2012 RGU with a 103. Both handle the same and have similar power. In fact due to my pipe/muffler/air cleaner choice on the RGU the 96 put out more power on the dyno (used quieter mufflers and an oval SE AC over the SE heavy breather I used on the RK).

That said, if you op for the 96 now ya got to be really OK with it. Its more of an emotional decision than a power/performance one... If you are not you will always second guess the decision to buy now. Prices "may" drop when the weather turns you know.

You live in California and the dealer told you 8 weeks for a new bike??? Maybe if you lived in Lapland...

BOY, he must want to unload that left-over.

If your talking about a 2013 SB with stock 103 engine the performance and feel of the bike will be almost identicle. What year is the 96" bike. If it is a 2012 then go for it if your getting an amazing deal. That said If it was me I would get the 103 and do intake/exhaust heads and cams!

Well, a few things come to my mind: the 103" is a lot less of a "stroker" or under square engine than the 96"- some wrenches I've talked to believe that a stroker won't last as long as an engine that is more square in the ratio between piston stroke and bore diameter. The 103" is certainly a Can-bus bike, while the 96" only is if a 2012 Dyna ( screw that, more crap I don't need and can't work on). And while many HD owners start off saying they will leave the engine stock, a lot less end up doing so. A 107" is even more of a square engine than a 103", and is pretty popular stage III goal in many circles- when my top end is ready for an overhaul, if I got the green, it's where I'd like to take my 96"- welded and trued crank, gear drive cams, and a Rivera Pro clutch in the bottom end to compliment it of course

one of the guys at my local dealer jumped on a 12 SB because he didn't want to wait. nice looking bike, but he spent most of the time talking to me the differences in the two model years (12 to 13) and how he was going to replace things on the 12 to be like the 13. it sounded like there were more small differences than just the motor.

at the end of the conversation he said maybe he would just trade in and get the 13. color was a factor too....

good luck with your decision.
