Buy new or used? If used, how used??
Hey guys, I got my motorcycle license last year and bought myself a 2009 Kawasaki KLX250SF which is a great bike for getting to work and cruising the city, but I really want to start taking longer rides. Plus my a-hole cousin bought a new Iron last year and now I need a Harley too...
Anyways, I really want a Street Bob as I'm a big fan of no frills, blacked out, etc. In a perfect world, I would like to pick up a '13 with the 103 in black (undecided on denim vs gloss) but I'm not keen on picking up a $13K loan...I already have a couple of those with my vehicles.
In my market right now, there's 2 used S-Bobs that fit the bill....
One is an 07 and its all blacked out. Visually its exactly what I want. Only problem is that it has 26,000 miles on it. Price on this one is $7500.
The other is also an 07, but it has 6,000 miles on it. Problem with this one? Is denim pewter and does not have as many blacked out parts. Its $8750.
Thoughts on the mileage vs $ debate? Both have the 96 and it seems like these motors are either golden or rat turds from what I've been reading. I realize maintenance is key, but what are your initial impressions on what I should do?

Why is 26,000 miles a problem? I would rather buy a used bike that had been riden vs one that sat in a garage.
Keep looking, you'll find the one.
Here is one I found in 2 minutes:

26,000 isn't necessarily a problem unless it means things like bearings etc. are going to be going bad upon getting the bike. From what I've been finding on the forum here, it seems like 50K or so is where motors start needing some service beyond the usual?
If 26,000 miles is a non-issue, then that's great! I just wasn't sure.

One area that will tell you if bike was treated well is the cam chain tensioner.
You will have to have this looked at. It's no big deal to replace. However if the bike was NOT maintained, it will be apparent right there. Just my opinion.
If you do not have this looked after, you will be playing roulette.
