Default clutch spring

Just curious about who's running the stock cluth spring & who's changed theirs out for the SE clutch spring or something else.

My tuner recommended keeping the stock spring with the numbers my bike is making (86hp/96tq) & said the SE spring wasn't necessary until you get to 95+hp or 105+ tq or so.

At what point or what numbers do you benefit from changing to the SE clutch spring or another clutch spring?

Please post what clutch spring you're running and your bike's numbers for reference. Wondering & thinking this might be something I'll do in the future.

Thanks in advance for any input or thoughts on this.

I have SE spring, it grabs instantly compare to stock clutch spring. I didn't realize how bad the stock clutch slipped until I installed the SE spring. However, It is 30% harder to disengage, you got to install a ez clutch to compensate. I have the cheap Burly ez clutch lever installed, cost $34 on top of the SE clutch. Trust me, the SE clutch and 30T pulley are the best investments I've had.

Barnett HeavyDuty spring here. My ride's an '04 Dyna with stock tc88. Swapped the worn-out OEM clutch for an Energy One replacement, and it slipped like crazy in 5th with the original spring (never slipped with OEM spring/clutch). So invested $34 in a Barnett HD spring rather than $150 in a second new clutch. Seems to have worked, no more slipping, but now I have to spend an hour each evening doing lt forearm exercises. Not exactly the way I had it planned.

i have the barnett Heavy duty clutch spring in now. i dunno why everyoen seems to think you need to be popeye to use it though. i dont notice any heavier pull with it over stock still only need to use 2 fingers for full engagement/disengagment. loving it though as theres no slipping anymore

Going with a stronger spring is cheap and easy and there's really no reason not to do it regardless of your numbers. It will make the clutch last longer.

Been doing the same research. Just ordered #37871-98 (newer #37871-98A) suppose to be a happy medium between stock and the SE.

Here's what I found:

37951-98 Nothing
37871-98A Yellow dot
37807-03 CVO Yellow dot / Pink dot
37871-04 Yellow dot / Yellow Stripe
37882-06 Redish Brown Square / Yellow dot

SE 380 lbs
98 330 lbs
04 300 lbs
06 300 lbs

Year Models P/N
99 99 - * ALL 37871-98
01 01 - * ALL 37871-98A
03 ALL 37871-98A
04 ALL 37871-04
06 37882-06

Agree. Just do it, you will be much happier. Loved my se spring, made the stock clutch hold up to 100ft lbs and serious abuse for 40k and was still mint. Unfortunately it won't hold up to the new combo. I don't think its hard to pull at all, I two finger it all the time. It gives the clutch a lot more feel and snap rather than the stock mush.

been doin it in mx bikes forever. its the first think i do before i ride or race it. The factory puts a weak spring in at the factory because when u sit on the bike on the showroom floor they want u to pull in an easy and buttery smooth clutch lever. its a selling point and thats it. But you most definitively are not putting every ounce of power to the ground. I will put a h.d. spring in my fat bob this summer. i could feel it slipping from day 1.

SE Spring. Just makes pulling away from a stop a better experience.
