I had the same issue with the lifted headlight when I mounted mine. I originally had about 1 1/2 to 2" lift on my headlight and had to lower it back down to the stock mounting block, but I added a few washers as shims to raise it just a bit.
After putting a few miles on it, I can tell you this thing is nice. Well made, works great at keeping the wind off my chest and the price is great.
I've done a little modding to mine since mounting it. I installed my stereo/MP3 player, blacked out the screen with black plastidip and then shot a couple layers of gun metal grey plastidip over that, and I started some panel stripes with pinstrip tape to make it match the rest of my bike a little better. Here are a couple pics:

Thanks. I considered making my own brackets for mine too. But then I remembered how much of a pain that was to do for my previous fairing and how I was never quite satisfied with what I came up with. So I just caved and bought the OEM ones from Memphis Shades.
As for the speakers, I'm really not sure. It's some cheapo set that my dad gave me. In pretty sure he got it off eBay. It has a small amp with an FM tuner and inputs for SD cards and USB thumb drives for MP3s, I wired it into the low beam line of my headlight so I can kill the music by flashing my brights on for a second. The cheap speakers don't sound great, but it gets the job done.
