Default Can we move the oil filter?

I changed the oil in my Streetbob the other day and the oil filter is in a terrible place.

Has anyone moved their oil filter to the back of the bike like the way Indian Larry used to do it?

What is so bad where it is?

They have been in that location for MANY years now. Easy place to get to and out in the open. Makes a mess....but can be prevented with a little creativity.

I dont think its in such a bad place where is at right now. Its easy to get to and a lil simple green cleans up any lil spills from an oil change.

Well I will actually answer your question. I won't give you a bunch of grief because your different than the average rub.

Yes you can. There are many places that make fitler relocation plates. I don't know of any that are a straight forward "Bolt On" but I imagine that if your asking this question your not real conserned with that.

Summit, Jegs, Speedway are a few places I can think of off the top of my head. Take a look.

It's not so much that it's in a bad place - it's not, but the sensor and frame cradles do not make filter changes as easy or as neat as it could be.

There are lots of ways you can do it. There are a few relocation plates available on the market. Mix in some AN fittings, and you can put any kind of filter you want, just about any where you want. How about hanging it off the bottom of the rear fork? Or you could us aflat screen filter.

I like the look of the filter towards the rear of the bike. The Indian Larry website offers a couple of mounts that go in the same location as a sidemount license plate. They look like they would require some welding though and might not be the best solution.

The stock location isn't as bad as I might have made it sound in my first post. The biggest issue that I have with it is that I couldn't get my hand around the filter without burning the crap out of it and then the forward controls were in the way so that I couldn't get any torque to loosen it. Once you add in the burnt flesh, bloody knuckles, and spilt oil all over the frame and garage floor I figured there has got to be a better location for it.

Why don't you just install that new oil filter set up that HD is selling. I think that would eliminate most of the problem that you describe.
