Default Assistance identifying a part - 2006 Street bob

I purchased the bike used last year and didnt notice this "bracket" when i bought it. I would like to return it to the stock form. The bracket (picture) hangs from the top shock bolt on both the right and left hand side. I have done research on the HD Parts website but either im not calling it the correct name or perhaps it doesnt belong on the bike!

Can anybody identify this part/bracket and what it could have been used for by the previous owner? IM thinking bags?? I want to return it to the orinignal form..

1- can i purchase the original spacer and hardware?
2- can i simply trim the bracket part off and call it good? IM sure the HD Parts are $$.
3- Any value in this used part to anyone?

thanks for your help.

I'll probably be corrected by someone who knows more that I do, but it appears to me that the fender has been chopped and whoever did it added an extra bracing point. It may need to be there.

Looking at the photo again... my orientation was rotated 90 degrees. Sorry about that and please ignore my "diagnosis." I was all turned around.

The "bracket" you are talking about is the "Upper Shock Spacer".

The one on their now allows for detachable saddle bags to be mounted to the bike. It is the original version that has been superseded by a newer design.

The original "Upper Shock Spacer" is part # 54716-06 for $40.14 Retail, each.
Ronnie's Harley Davidson sells them for $30.32 on-line, each.

It looks like the HD detachable saddlebag front mount to me, but it doesn't have the mounts on the fender struts.
