Guys I'm pretty green on this wide glide I just bought. The previous owner was tall and had those 3" extensions on his forward controls. I'm 5'-10" and that wont work for me. Can anyone tell me if I remove those 3" extensions what length shift rod I now need to find to make the normal length forward controls work?

You may be able to take it up with the shifter peg spline. It's the brake rod that'll be the problem.
