I don't think there is any way to know. It will be an interchangeable part but the later version will probably have some fix for one or more problems with the earlier one.

I prepaired a response to this but it didnt show up so we'll try again... GRRRRR
The other letter designators signify the ability to use the speedo/tach combo on older style ECM bikes. The B designator for instance was for use on the sporties A for the bigger bikes from what I can tell... Each of these kits came with a connection harness cable that one would simply plug into the data port on the bike and after plugging the new speedo into it the bike ECM would then transfer all of the apropriate information so the new speedo would work.
With 2012 and newer CAN/BUS bikes that is no longer necessary as the ECM maintains almost ALL of the bikes data separate from the speedo unit.
All one need do with a 2012 or newer bike is unplug the battery, plug the new style C version into where the old speedo was (no cable as mentioned above) reconnect the battery and presto.. the bike ecm feeds the new speedo all of the info.. easy-cheesy..
Ride it for 32 miles and its yours permanantly.. the speedo then marries for good to your bike only.
It'll take longer to figure out your color combos available with this kit than it will to install it.
