Default Pre-2006: the forgotten dyna?

Looking around for a new exhaust. Wanting a quality 2 into 1, chrome. Keep running across companies making pipes for post 06 only. Biggest example is V&H. But others have a wide selection for post '06 and just a few for '05 and older.

Apparently I'm riding a dinosaur.

Trust me I know the feeling I have an 01 and let's just said any electrical desire you have most only work for 06 and yup. Not fun, our year models have just as much potential the newer ones. The other thing that ticked me off I even I found out I couldn't get a se 120r, the stealer told me to upgrade my motorcycle and in was like um why?

even the forums here have become full of "which electronic tuner should I use" or "I just did Stage _____" mods. Both of which are for the newer efi stuff. Apparently Dyna guys don't tune carbs anymore

looking at a couple bassani pipes. haven't heard good things about thunderheader lately, and I don't like the sport bike look of the D&D stuff. Also considering the Patriot Defender but not impressed with the fit quality of the heat shields, nor the chrome to stainless transition at the collector. Can't argue with their price and performance though.

I also know that feeling. Add the Wide Glide factor to that and it gets even worse. I just custom fabricated my dual exhaust using some Street Glide parts, some V&His and even parts off a 2011 Mustang GT.

I've wondered before if it might be worth splitting the dyna section here into two subforums... carbed and efi.

Bassani makes great 2-1 pipes that will fit your year. The chrome finish is great. I had the 1D5250, which was great but too loud for my taste. I switched to the 13122J, which is still loud, but much less so. I originally had a V&H 2-1, and the Bassanis feel much stronger above 3000 rpms than the V&H.

how much quieter was the 1d2550 vs the 13122j? (meter wise)

I would love to see a forum split between older and newer or carbed and efi.

I have an 00 carbed 88 and plan to keep it for a long time. It is such a good runner and handler I have no reason to change, fits my current needs quite well.

Being a narrow glide and for other reasons, we do have our unique needs and issues.
