Strange happening on my 99 Wide Glide
Today while returning from a very nice charity ride we stopped for lunch. Everything was running great up to this point. When I started the bike for a lunch break there was a strange rattling inside the primary cover. We stopped my lady to get a jacket and then the bike wouldn't start. You could hear the starter spinning but it wasn't engaging the fly wheel.
After a while I was able to get the bike started. (push starting a 800 lb. bike SUCKS!!!) Once we got home I took the primary cover off and discovered the Jackshaft bolt had completely backed itself out. This explains why the pinion wouldn't engage the flywheel.
Luckily No parts were damaged and everything went back together without a hitch. The test ride went well .
I guess my big question is has anyone ever heard of this happening on a 88" twin cam before?
Thanks

$800 for both bags, lids and FL front fender. For custom paint with ghost flames plus custom painted fender emblems I think that is pretty reasonable. As with most things "You get what you pay for"

The tab was not broken but the washer was bent like it had been over torqued. So I straightened the wash and reinstalled with a couple drops of lock tight on the bolt threads.

Me too. I thought I was going to have to buy a starter. Very glad that wasn't the case. We are scheduled to go to Bike Week in Myrtle next week that might have put a damper on that trip.
