So what is this gray bracket and can I just remove it? There are three screws that hold it on under the case.

Yes you may.
I used a torx bit and a wrench to turn it on the one...the others I could get with a ratchet and wobble extension.
-ps-
I want that same timer cover!

I have Vance n Hines exhaust on my bike now but I'll keep it just in case. I have the timing cover and derby cover that match. Bought em at the local hd shop. Do I need to put the screws back in?

Good idea to leave screws or plastic plugs in place to defend against muck and crud from corroding the exposed threads....

Id stick the screws back in with some never seize. When I pulled the oem plastic plugs to mount my hwy pegs the treads were wet and had surface rust.

It's only the muffler bearings bracket, ok to remove.

Well my shitty torx bit stripped out. Looks like it's staying put for now.
