Default quick question - warning light for overheating?

just a quickie...

i recently had some engine work done, including a tmax and sometimes in city traffic the check-engine light goes on, i know this is a temp warning but what i don't know is if my 07 Dyna had this function with the stock ecm as i'd never seen it before

i'm curious to know whether the components/tune is the cause of the overheating or it's just a new function

thanks

My 2012 Fat Bob Check Engine light came on because it was throwing ECM codes. You should check for any codes.

My bad, it flashes to indicate overheating not just a steady light

Bad engine timing can cause it to run hot at idle

Have not been able to find a meaning for a flashing Check Engine light in my manuals yet, but if yours say it means overheating then I recommend Wards Cooling Fans:

I do not think it is a new function at all...............mine does not throw the check engine light at all.............

I would go into the engine code's software in you TM and see if you have any code's popping up first.... See what they are, and clear them........
That may cure the issue.

Does your oil indicator light come on at all ??????? Little red dot near the center of your speedo just to the right ?

Where is your idle rpm speed set at ??????

Where did you purchase your ThunderMax tuner ?????? (If purchased from Cyclesolutions you can call Chris anytime, he will always respond)

Let me know what you come up with ............

No oil light and not sure what my idle is set at...

Flashing engine light is definitely a temp warning feature of the tmax, I'm just not sure if it's a feature of the original ECM

I'm trying to understand if I'm overheating more than before or if the tmax is just telling me more than before

I bought it from a local Indy, they did the work and they're a 'premier' tmax dealer. They're closed today.

I'll check the codes after work.

Thanks, keep em coming

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the flashing check engine light when overheating is a Tmax specific thing. I don't think stock ECMs do that. Really confused me first time it happened, but now that I understand what it means its a really nice warning feature. It didn't store any codes when I checked.

I think the default is 350 degrees but I'll double check along with the idle rpm and codes tonight...
