Default drained oil. dip stick reads full

I pulled the drain plug and maybe half a quart poured into my pan. I read the bike hold 3 quarts and will drain 2 without pulling filter. After the 1/2 quart came out it scared me into thinking I was running 5 he bike with no oil. Before adding oil I checked dip stick and it reads full. How could it be full but only drained 1/2 a quart?

There are 3 drain plugs, are you getting them mixed up?

What year and kind of bike do you have? This is a common thread subject. I didn't change my oil myself, until I asked someone which is the oil drain plug. I have a good picture of the plugs but it only is correct for certain models.

You could have drained the case and not the tank.

We all think you pulled the wrong plug.
This is when you need a service manual if doing your own work.
