Default Oil Light On

2007 Dyna Super GLide Custom was down 1/4-1/2 liter of oil. Topped it off. Light still on. What could be the problem? Would changing the oil and filter fix the problem? I am at 6200km since the last oil change (screaming eagle synthetic). Please can someone help? Thanks in advance

Where was the oil on the dip stick before you put in the oil?

No, Your oil pressure sensor probably went bad.

Oil pump? Check the obvious. If it isn't oil level then it is either a bad oil sensor or low oil pressure which would indicate an oil pump problem.

The switch is the little plug on the front right side of the crankcase cover. On mine the wire broke off of it.

Where on the dipstick? Between full and add? Was the engine warm or cold? What I an getting at is it might not have needed oil.

Always check your oil level when the engine is warm. I check mine about a minute or two after I pull into the garage. Everything said before me also applies. Good luck.

I don't want to start an argument here but I have alot of mechanical background and I run heavy machinery on construction sites for a living, we always check oil cold even on cars.

It can be done warm just watch you don't get burned on the exhaust shields taking out the stick!
