Default First fill up today

My switchback is about a week and a half old and I finally had to fill her up today. most of my riding was in town and maybe 60 miles highway. I ended up getting 32.1 MPG. Is that good for a new bike? Thanks. Dave

My FB got about 38-39 at first and am up to 42-43 after 2800 miles! It is still sizing up the rings and bores! It should improve as this process ends and much less of your power flies by your pistons and into the crank case!
Don't want to hijack the thread, but how do you like the foot boards on the FLD, angle, hight...comfortable?

At first I did not know how I would like them but I figured I could just switch them out for pegs if I did not like them. Took a day to get used to them but I would not trade them for the world! You feet are sitting flat and some times after riding my sportster for awhile I would notice my instep hurt some but with the floor boards they don't!

City driving is hard to judge. Remember that optimal mileage involves a steady speed in the appropriate gear. 60 mph in 5th gear will get you , say, 42-50 mpg, but 15 to 30 mph with stops and starts in 2nd and 3rd will get you between 30 to 40 mpg, and idling at 0 mph getsts 0 mpg, but the gas still goes down at idle!

My built engine (107" STage II heads and 777 cams) gets me 48mpg riding 50 mph in fourth. etc etc

You my friend need to get out on the highway and break that motor in properly!

Ride safe, Ride hard

Don't baby the break in. Vary the speed and get on it. Also do plenty of down shifting. Your MPG will climb as it breaks if.

When running the corn gas it is about right. If you have pure gas available it will improve you mpg several mpg's. Also these TC motors dont loosen up until around 6000 miles.

The gas station I go to has NON ethanol 91 octane. we don't have any 93 octane around here so should I be using a booster of some sort or just let it be at 91%. Dave

91 is what the manual recommends... your lucky to have real gas.

Yes, on the 91 octane it is pure. But on the 87 octane there is a choice of pure and ethanol. I see your in MD. Old Prince Georges County boy here!
