.030 head gasket / cam selection
Hey guys, I'm a new owner to my (7th?) Harley now. 16 Fatboy S. I'm wanting to do cams at the same time I do my Fatcat and tune, but am concerned about compression. I see that several people have run the Feuling 574 with good results on the stock 110 motor. My question is, how much additional compression are you going to get from the head gasket? Or is the answer going for a torquier cam instead of the Feuling or Woods 777. I'm looking at phasing:
1) Pipe and tune (TTS) -- going to want to do cams
2) Pipe, cams, and tune -- worried about compression
3) Pipe, cams, head gasket, and tune -- worth tearing into top end without going all out?
4) Screw it, pipe, cams, headwork, the whole 9. -- time and cost / reliability?
And a picture, just because. Only a few mods so far.

I was going to do cams in my 110 but after some research found that the 255 stock cam is hard to beat without going all out with head work and other mods. Decided to keep it stock other than a tts, reinhart crossbacks, and dyno tune. The new exhaust and tune woke it up enough to keep me happy until the warranty is up. Ended up with 89hp and 108tq. Expected better, but it is what it is. I don't think I need more since I don't usually go any faster than 80 and it doesn't take long to get there as it sits. Every time I pull off a start I have to remember to slow it down. Just wants to go.

Phasing cost more in the long run. $ wise if I was having the work done I wouldn't do the gaskets only. At that point a street port or something to that effect will net you way better results since you have it opened up. That also opens up a wider cam selection. Bolt in cams, pipe, tuner were good, now I'm looking at a build ( 124 / s&s crank & heads ). Its only been a little over a year I think so you can see where I'm coming from. I should have just bit the bullet from the beginning.

BEST, depends on your budget.
IF your still under (I think) 90 days. MoCo has been producing good results and can have warranty.
You can get cyclinders and pistons kit or a full kit from the MoCo. On average folks have been getting bout 115HP & 125TQ.
Some folks using MoCo kits with different cams & pistons are getting better number. Best I have seen is 141HP & 144TQ.
Suburban speed, CP, etc makes some Hi Compresion pistons for the 117" motors too.
Aftermarket companies- S&S, Drago's, Tman, Revolution, Axtell, Fuel Moto, etc, etc. Numbers here will vary pending which kit you want.
Good luck!

110" engine with headwork/cams/throttle body/tune will have many folks VERY happy.
Up from there would be to bore to 113", and/or bore your cases to accept 4 1/8" cylinders, yielding 117".
135-140 hp, 140-145 ft/lbs within reach, set-up/tuned correctly.
