Default 1997 Heritage Classic vs 1999 Fatboy

Looking at two different bikes. Ones a 1999 Fatboy with 13,000 miles private party, will not go lower than $6,900.
Other bike is a 1997 Heritage Softail with 26,000 miles, from a dealer, asking $8999, will take $7700. Both bikes are in great condition for the age. Fatboy is stock other than Screaming Eagle pipes. Heritage has a Stage 1. What do you guys think? I like the Fatboy but it's going to need some upgrades, where the Heritage already has some extras.

Newer bike, half as many miles...what are the "extras"..."stage 1" is a term that people throw around which actually means nothing, you need to what has been done to the bike..from your description I would want the fatboy.

I agree with Tom, of those two the Fatboy is a better deal but not a deal I'd take... This is a good time to buy and a bad time to sell, take a look at the 2nd link below, someone got a bike that's much newer and almost no miles for 600 more,,,Better yet, show it to your fatboy seller and ask him why you should buy his bike...

Another option is walk into the dealership with $6k cash in your hand and see what they do.
Cash is King!!!

The dealer is not your friend… period. You will never know exactly what you are buying for they WILL try to deceive you if possible. I generalize of course and there are exceptions, but not many… buyer beware.
As for the above choice. The '99 was for my money the best year for the Evo.
Have fun

Well, the 97 Heritage just sold. I'm not sure where some of you are from but those prices around here seem pretty good. I was more concerned about the bikes having lower mileage and how that might effect them sitting that much over the years. The Fatboy only averages 845 miles per year. Is that a problem and, if so, what should I be looking for?

If that is the blue/silver bike in Mt Vernon that seems like a good price for a unmolested bike in the northwest. looks nice in the pictures

Thanks for the response. Yes, that is the bike. I'm having it looked over in a few hours

There is also another Heritage that I just saw. A 98 that is in super nice condition, almost looks new. It does, however, have 66,000 miles on it. Ev27 cam, s&s super e carb, and Vance & Hines pro pipe.
