98glider,
A lean running engine will make poor power, run hot and generally make you mad with it's limp performance.
One quick test is to take the bike out and as you are cruising along, back off on the throttle. If the bike has a quick surge of power as you do it, it is most likely running lean.
It is more pronounced if you do it from a wide open throttle but that is not always a practical test to perform what with traffic and all.
Another thing to look at is the spark plugs but I am not qualified to help you "read" them for a slightly lean condition because Evos can have very clean looking spark plugs but not be running too lean.
Maybe someone else on here can help you with analyzing your spark plugs.
You say your bike is running okay so maybe you don't have any problem at all.
If your bike feels okay to you, no sense getting worked up about whether it "might" have a problem.

Megawatt, Good advice on the voes and yes the acc pump should squirt with the slightest crack of the throttle.
Once I caught a carb cough up on a small block chevy with a holly. NOT GOOD!!!

Replace the seals. Simple job, but like most Harley repairs, you need to remove a bunch of good stuff to get to the bad stuff.

I actually bought a 96 FLSTN running on only the front cylinder. Did a few hours of troubleshooting and it was the rear intake flange gasket. Best buy I've made so far.
