Manual is old factory one falling apart I might add, good thing pages are numbered. LOL

As for the big end,I will just rotate and feel for smoothness, check for excess play. NOT splitting the cases unless I need to. Only 40k on it,should be fine.

Here's the first snag, LOL, I can't find a 1/4" ,12 point socket ,1/4" drive anywhere to remove the torque bolts on the tappet blocks . Could only get some off with a box wrench .
Will need socket to torque it down anyway. I'll find one somewhere eventually...

Base gaskets are peeling off by hand, lucky I guess, I little stuck to jugs.
Head gaskets say 60 on them and they measure over .050 thick , normal ?(old ones)
My head gaskets that came in the kit are .045, but I'll probably end up getting some .030s according to the reading I've been doing. I'll verify by measuring the squish as described in the other thread.

My bike always pinged on regular, and even with premium running anything but a super mild advance curve. Targetting a better squish should yield a better burn and make it more ping resistant.

Wouldn't higher compression cause more pinging?

That's what I thought too, but everything I read about setting the squish (quench) correctly to get a better burn, says that one of the major benefits is reducing detonation.

Guess we'll find out.
