Default Tachometer options for 1994 FLHR Road King

I want to add a tach on to my '94 RK but am unsure what the best course of action is. I have seen bikes with the small tach thrown on the handlebars and tachs built into a split space where the speedometer resides normally. Any recommendations?

Up the bars will have your eyes closer to your plane of vision. This is a safety issue. Compared to looking down on the tank...

That makes sense. Any combo speedo/tach options that replace the already existing speedometer out there?

Not for a '94.
You either need to get a speedo drive that changes mechanical to electrical signal or modify your transmission to run an electric speedo.
Once you do that there are many options in the aftermarket world for combining speedo and tach.

I got this off ebay...it mounts on the riser clamp. I got it for like 30 bucks shipped on ebay...I may have to go to a mini tach or something if I go though with buying a batwing this winter.

I don't have a pic of it mounted yet.

Default Auto Meter

Here's my approach. Yep, not very safe down there where I have to take my eyes off the road to look at it. I use an old trick pilot's use, glance at it, take a mental 'picture', then look back at the road while my brain computes the RPM. Works well enough. I don't watch it much. When it hits the limiter it's time to shift.

The bracket's a SBC alternator bracket bolted to the horn post. It's shock-mounted via that post. Not fancy but works. The tach sits in the crook of my leg so no interference. I preferred this to having it up on the bars or console.
