Voes Operational at Idle

Voes Operational at Idle
Hey Guys,
Just got finished with a cam swap and overcoming some tuning issues over the weekend. After setting the timing with a dial back, I realized that the Voes was operational at my 1000 rpm idle. I've read some of the threads concerning Voes issues, but really do not understand some of it.
One of the issues is to get at the Voes on my 93 FXLR is not an easy job in a hot garage. The tank, top motor mount and top stabilizer will all have to be removed. I'm trying to put this job off until the weather gets cooler and my new S&S E arrives that's on backorder. I'll have to remove all of those parts anyways to install the new carb.
Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated

All I can tell you is that your VOES should advance your timing at 1000 RPM. One way I can check my VOES to make sure it is working, is to lower the idle until the vacuum drops enough to drop out the VOES. This will let the idle drop a significant amount all at once. as soon as the idle is brought back up, it will jump to a faster idle. The manual way is to disconnect the vacuum line from the VOES to see the drop in RPM. It is not to hard to do this at the carb, but then you also drop the vacuum at the vacuum operated fuel valve at the tank. Hope some of this helps.

Yes Buddy; That is about it. The manual does say you should plug the carb where you take off the vacuum line, but it should not make to much difference. And yes, When you remove the vacuum line from the carb it should drop the idle by quite a bit. It depends on what you have your idle set at, but when mine is cold, it will almost die with the vacuum line disconnected from retarding the timing.
