Default air cleaner insert

I have a 1985 FXWG and am looking for the stock air cleaner insert with no success. The dealers say the part is now obsolete and I would like to keep the bike stock. Does any one have a insert or air cleaner they would like to get rid of or know of a dealer that may have one lost in inventory. I would sure appreciate any help I can get on this.

I have seen some on Ebay. Mostly Screaming Eagle. I have been looking myself. Find a Mdl specific will be lucky.

With some searching, they show up on Ebay but takes some time to find them, most of the time they are with take off carbs. Searching harley carbs comes up with a take off unit or 40 pages of harley air cleaners sometimes produces one. Good luck on your search.

I just came up with a stock carbed Roadking cover (new) from Ebay about 3 weeks ago so patience pays off.

Did your dealer do a search of other dealers inventory, they can do that. I was looking for that little chrome thing to hang a padlock on and they found one a couple states away..Worth a shot..

First find out the part number of the piece you are looking for. Then go to your dealer and pick up a Harley touring guide map. This is an atlas that has all the dealers locations and phone numbers listed in it. Then let your fingers do the walking. Start with the nearest dealers, work outwards and don't be afraid to ask them if they may know of someone who may have the part you are looking for. Your dealer can do an on line search, but there are two systems that the dealers use so if a dealer has it he may not be on the same system as your dealer. Additionally not all obsolete prts show up when they are searched for, so calling them can find you parts that a search cannot. We've found numerous parts over the years using this method. Hope this helps.

There is a younger parts guy at the dealership I deal with. If he is not real busy he will search the parts data base for me and tell me if anyone has what I am looking for. He likes to help me out because I am not a pompus rude yuppie biker ( his words). My dear departed mother always said you get more with honey than vinegar. A lot of time the computer shows the part, but when you call they don't have it. Some dealers wil not ship to you direct. They tell you they have to ship it to your dealer then you have to buy it from them. I usually keep looking when they tell me that. Good luck.

Thanks for the repy's. I have searched ebay with no luck yet but will keep looking. I have a hog travel book with the dealer locations and numbers. Think I will peck away at this and see if I come up with anything.

You're talking the filter element, right? See if K&N makes one for it. I assume you still have the original POS carb too, if you're running the original air cleaner. Man, I never could get that thing to run right. The Screaming Eagle (of the era) was better, and the S&S better yet.

No it's the insert for the air cleaner cover with the 80 cubic inch wide glide logo. I actually just changed the stock air filter element with a K&N, made a big difference.
