Finally finished replacing drive belt!!! (man what a job!)
Well after a couple of weeks (much of that time spent waiting for parts and a puller), I finally finished replacing the drivebelt on my 1988 FLHTC.
Definitely was a bit of an ordeal. The farthest I'd gotten into the primary before that was replacing the compensating sprocket and stator a few months ago. So beyond that, each step of the way I was looking at the manuals and taking a lot of pictures so I would be able to put it all back together again. And also searching a reading a lot of posts on this forum. (Thanks guys!)
And then of course whenever I do something new like this the outcome is somewhat in doubt until I hit the starter button. But she fired right up on the second or third crank. Whether or not the whole starting mechanism would actually work was my main concern... after removing the clutch shell and hub, starter shaft, starter motor, starter solenoid and plunger, starter shifter arm...well you get the idea.
Anyway, she's running like a Bat out a Hell again. Thanks again for all of you Evo gurus on this forum. You are an awesome help. You were a big help on this and MANY other jobs I've done on this old girl in the last couple of years. Maybe I can help some of the others that want to do this job for the first time now.
One of these days I'm gonna get around to redoing the top end and slapping in that EV 27 too. Then I know I'll have lots more questions. Actually compared to this job I don't think redoing the top end will be all that hard.
Sure do love working on the old girl. Almost as much as riding her!
Ride safe y'all

Just got back from an hour ride on her. Shifting a little crisper than before, goes into neutral a little better too. I guess cleaning all the clutch plates when I had er apart helped, cuz I know she was adjusted right before...Even better...the drive belt is still there!!!
