Good tip. I will try that tomorrow. This has been the most pain in the butt front end I have ever dealt with and the first time I am tackling ever taking the whole tube apart

I used an impact too but already had the tube out, it still took the bolt out. Could help to reassemble and tighten the top nut just enough to tension the damper.

took a step forward today and one back. One damper bolt is rotating so I am waiting on my father to bring me my impact wrench. I rebuilt the one that I did get apart and put the new tube in there. However, I forgot to put the spacer in between the oil seal and the other Teflon coated washer so I am going to have to take the seal back out and put a new one in.

Well, I got it all buttoned up today. Now to move onto rehearing it. The reason that the bolt wouldn't come out o the bottom of the fork is because. ........ Whoever put them together messed up the threads on the damper. I stuck a really long pry bar down in there with a little gasket material for friction and it came out. I the re threaded the damper and blamo. Put it all back together. I am very pleased and thought I would throw this up here because I hate when people don't post the outcome to their threads when there is audience participation. So thank you and take this time to stretch until the next round.

Good job on the r&r. Your thread just shows me that persistence pays off.

6mm. You need a long Allen socket. You can get them at sears or lowes
