Default Clutch life

I've got a 91 FXSTC with 40,000 miles on it. The clutch isn't slipping yet but the engagement is taking more lever travel and I am curious how many miles other owners are getting on a set of plates. And yes I am adjusting it regularly. Thanks ahead of time for your feedback.

I'm sure these things have gone round the clock. I've only recently changed my 1990 plates, but only because I have done other trans upgrading. What I did find is that my pressure plate was starting to fail and I had to replace it. Part of the groove where the retaining spring C-clip sits had broken away. So take a close look at yours.

I just replaced my plates on my 2007 with 91000 miles...surprisingly they looked great, I already had the new Barnett lack and spring so I changed it all but I am pretty sure all I needed was a heavier spring. I am happy with the way it grabs now though.

202,000 miles on the original clutch plates here. Still works perfectly.

I replaced my plates at about 60K miles. They were still at minimum spec or better at the time, but I was in there so I put new in.

Stock clutches last for a long time as long as the motor puts out less than 90hp & the rider doesn't hammer on it.

I admit that I used to hammer the crap out of mine, until I had that third belt put on and I stopped then. So, my original clutches certainly got pounded on, but were still fine at 60+K

My clutch has probably lasted because I don't "ride it like I stole it."

I "ride it like I'm going to have to pay for it if I break it."

Had to replace my plates because they were slipping around 52,000 miles. I bought the bike with 43,000 so who knows how rough the previous owner was on the clutch.
