Default 2011 Leather Bags on a 96' Road King

Asked this in the touring forum and thought I should check here too. Does anyone know if the leather bags on a 2011 Road King Classic will fit on my 1996 Road King?

My aftermarket bags are looking pretty bad and a might be able to pick up a set that have only seen a 1,000 of road time for $300.

I looked up the part number of saddlebags for your 1996 Road King which uses hard bags.

I then looked up the part number for the hard saddlebags on a 2011. The part numbers are the same except in the suffix was different. The 2011 showed a few different suffixes and it became apparent that the suffix is for different colors, this leading me to deduce they will fit.
Since the 1996 didn't show leather saddlebags, I reasoned that if the hard bags are the same then the leather ones should fit.

If they don't, it is likely only to be something minor that can be overcome easily.

Prot and I were on the case at the same time! Several of the parts on the later RKC bags are the same as much earlier ones. I have hard bags from that era on my 1990 Glide. What I found with mine was that to get the later bags to fit, as I wanted, I made up a bracket to support the front mounting point on each. So the answer is yes, they can probably be made to fit without too much effort. In my case I bought a pair intent on making them work and won!

Prot and grbrown,

Thank you for your time and answers. Looks like I'll be shooting off an offer to this guy. Prot, book marked that link. What a great resource.

Thanks again!

BTW, I thought in '96 the Road King came with hard or soft bags? Doesn't matter one way or the other. I'm set.
