Question Would you change the lifters too????

Hi fellow forum members;

My question is would you change the lifters if you were upgrading to the hydraulic tensioners kit from Herko?

Depends on mileage. Say if you have under 25k I wouldn't, 30-40k I probably would. That's just my opinion.

I agree, to a point. Even though the lifters are roller lifters, the rollers will conform to the cam lobe. If the lifters you are taking out show a pronounced wear pattern, I woudl change them regardless of miles.

Changing opens another can of worms; what replacement lifter to use. The -99B lifter has been the standard for me for a long time but the MoCo has changed suppliers and the quality is hit/miss.

We use the B lifters here.
Always a good choice.

Hope you got the "old" -99B and not the "new" -99B; there have been problems with the new ones. Take a good look at them before you install them, particlularly the cup. I would attach a picture of the new body but I can't get the file small enough.

I use Head Quarters Black Ops lifters, don't trust the MoCo quality anymore. I get my lifters from Pro Twin http://protwin.com/index.aspx

It is ALWAYS a good idea to change the lifters when changing the cams. Both are new and can develop their own individual wear patterns. When one simply pulls the lifters out and re uses them... best practice is to put them in the bores they were removed from, because they all develop a wear pattern based upon the mating between the lifters and the cam they ride against. How would doing that help with new sticks? IMHO... it wouldn't.

My personal opinion, and practice, has always been to swap in new lifters with a new stick. The price is minimal, and even the SLIGHTEST problem (or perceived problem) later would make one wish they had. It would ALWAYS be in the back of MY mind that I installed used crap.... THAT would bug me. I think of lifters as a consumable part... much like clutch discs, etc.

It's a $60-260 expenditure on a $20K bike.....
