Default What does having Screaming Eagle pipes mean

I recently purchased a 2007 Electra Glide Ultra and have a question about it. It has Scream Eagle pipes on it so does that mean anything about performance? I do know it's not the CVO model. In other words can you just put the pipes on and that's it or do you have to tune the engine to the pipes? Just curious is all, the bike runs just fine.

screamin eagles are performance parts. they make parts for performance upgrades including exhaust.
usually u have to tune the bike if you put screamin eagles on. i had screamin eagle intake and exhaust installed on my sequential port injected 05 fatboy along with a tune. it may run lean without a tune. if the previous owner already had the tune done then u shouldnt have any problems

if it just has slipon mufflers i bet the first owner didnt do a tune, check and see if it has a high flow air cleaner too and if it does he may have had a download from the dealer done, for the pipes and air cleaner

Okay, I guess I just take the cover off and see what? Or is the cover a dead give away?

if you're refering to the oval shaped chrome cover that goes over the air filter, then no, the cover alone wont tell you if you have a stock or hi flow.

you can have a SE or big sucker and still use the stock chrome cover. so you need to remove the chrome cover and see if you have an after market filter underneath it.

So is a stock filter going to be just a paper filament like a car filter? Bear with me, I have no idea what I'm looking for. All I know about a motorcycle is how to twist the throttle and hit the brakes. I'm not a wrench. But it's time to learn!

Best thing to remember: If your bike runs good, there is nothing wrong with it.

Take the chrome oval "football" cover off with a properly sized allen wrench. If you don't own an allen wrench, stop, find a good independent "indy" mechanic and go there. If you do have a set of allen wrenches, remove cover. If the air filter looks like white corrugated paper and is roughly oval shaped, its the original air cleaner. If it is round, it is a high volume air cleaner.

Well it's round. More accurately conical. Small round top with a larger round bottom. So now, does that mean it also had to be tuned from factory specs to make it run as good as it does?
