neck bearing race removal

neck bearing race removal
I've got a 96 FXSTS, I've got the fork off and on the bench. Question I have is how are the races removed from the neck? The HD manual refers to a bearing removal tool, but the only catalog I have is a J&P, and they don't have one, just the race installer tool, which I have. Also, on the springer stem, how is it removed from the fork? Seems like it's pressed in. The lower bearing isn't wanting to come off, even after heatring the inner race up with a torch, and with the close proximity of the springs, I'd like to get the stem separated so I can really get some heat on the inner race. Help, anyone?
Thanks!
Thanks!

RE: neck bearing race removal
There is a special tool for removing the races. Jims as well as a few others make them. I bought mine off of ebay. It's a split ring the shape of the race with flanges that contact the edge of the race. there is a spacer/wedge that then goes between the race tool to hold it tight and the the driver goes into the spacer. you then hammer the race out. If you log into Dennis Kirk look uo part numbers H28-420, H28-286, AND H28-702. As for the bearing on the fork stem that is a PAIN to remove. There is a special tool for that also. It looks like a inner primary bearing puller, but the part that contacts the berringhas alarger opening. Jims makes one- not sure the part number, but if you search Jims web site you should be able to find it. You could takeyourlower triple tree to a dealer and have them pull the bearing.

Great answer, you are right on the money....I had to call Jim's, they finally found the stem bearing removal tool in their 2005 supplement. Dennis Kirk shows the other ones, too.....spendy devils, they are.....but I believe in owning tools, so I'll spring for them. Thanks for your help!
